In 2011, FFA in conjunction with Member Federations, Zones
Associations and Clubs will continue the roll out of Small-Sided Games,
now known as Optus Small-Sided Football. The St George Association has been progressively implementing the OSSF system and in 2011 has extended the OSSF programme to include U6's - U9's. "Almost without exception young players in the major footballing nations of the world are introduced to the game through small sided football. Brazil, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Japan, USA and Korea all introduce their young players to teh game using this approach" Excerpted from www.smallsidedfootball.com.au. A Message from FFA and Optus
The feedback from the first few seasons of the Optus Small-Sided Football
has been extremely positive. The positive feedback has validated the following benefits - - More touches of the ball by all players throughout all areas of the pitch
- more shots on goal and 1v 1 opportunities
- repeated decision making experience
- the emphasis is on player development rather than winning or losing
- better success rate leads to improved quality of play, self esteem and player retention
- the game is easier to understand
- freedom of expression - no positions in early stages
- less perceived pressure and sideline angst from coaches and parents
The above points have been excerpted from OSSF Parents Flyer"The education of clubs, parents and players is vitally important
to the success of Optus Small-Sided Football. With this in mind FFA has
produced the following educational resources and methods to assist clubs
in promoting and educating parents about the structure, rules and
philosophy of Optus Small-Sided Football". Please click on the icons below to view or download these informative brochures.
